At The Meow Maid, we do more than just cat sitting. We give stray cats a second chance at life.

While best known for providing reliable in-home cat care, The Meow Maid’s mission goes far beyond pet sitting. Behind the scenes, the organization is deeply committed to rescuing and rehabilitating stray and abandoned cats within the local community.

Melissa, the founder, has been independently rescuing cats for over six years. She humanely traps, socializes, and fosters cats who might otherwise be overlooked. Many come from difficult situations and have never experienced safety or affection. Through patient care and compassion, Melissa helps them recover and prepares them for loving, permanent homes.

Each foster cat receives individualized attention, full veterinary care, and a safe, home-based environment to grow and heal.

By adopting through The Meow Maid, you’re not only giving a cat a second chance — you’re supporting grassroots efforts that make a lasting impact in the community.

All cats and kittens available for adoption are fully vetted. They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea-treated, and dewormed. A pre-adoption application is required for all prospective adopters to ensure a perfect match between each cat and their new home.

Fuzzy

Hi, I’m Fuzzy!

I'm a gentle boy with a heart full of love, looking for a peaceful place to call my forever home.

The first part of my life was spent on the streets, where things were rough and people felt scary. When I was rescued, I didn’t know how to trust. But with patience, kindness, and a lot of love, I slowly learned that being cared for can feel pretty amazing. Now? I actually look for affection. I love curling up in a warm lap, nuzzling my head into your chest, and just being close. I’m calm, cuddly, and easygoing. All I need is a cozy spot and a person who wants a loyal, loving companion.

I’m around seven years old, with long, fluffy fur and big polydactyl paws (that means I have extra toes! Bonus, right?). I’m FIV+, but don’t let that worry you. I’m healthy, get regular vet check-ups, and with the right care, I can enjoy a happy, full life like any other cat.

Right now, I’m in a loving home, but some of the other cats haven’t really accepted me. It’s been tough and I tend to keep to myself because I don’t want any trouble. I’d truly thrive in a quiet, peaceful home where I can relax and feel safe every day.

I’d do best in a calm environment without dogs or young children. I would do okay with another calm cat, but honestly, I’d be just as happy being your one and only.

If you have a soft spot for underdogs (or undercats) who’ve overcome a lot, I might be the perfect match for you.

Purrs and head bumps,

Fuzzy Boy 🐾

Hi, I’m Mia!

I’m a sweet girl with one eye, a big heart and a soft little chirp that slips out before every meow (my foster mom says it’s one of her favorite things about me).

Not long ago, I used to live outside with lots of other stray cats. It was a tough life and I got hurt. My eye was badly injured and I had cuts on my face and ear. I was scared and didn’t know what it meant to feel safe.

But one day, someone saw me. Really saw me. She tried to catch me for weeks, but I was too afraid to trust anyone. Still, she didn’t give up on me. And eventually, I let her help me, and that’s when my life started to change.

Since then, I’ve been recovering with her in a foster home and feeling so much happier as my true personality begins to shine through. I had surgery in August to remove my injured eye and I’ve been healing—Not just my body, but my heart, too. I’ve gone from hiding in corners to playing and curling up next to my foster siblings, purring when I’m petted and gently pressing my head into kind, loving hands.

I’m looking for a quiet, loving home with a friendly cat companion and a patient human who understands that trust takes time, but the love that follows is truly worth the wait.

I may have lost an eye, but I’ve gained a new way to see love. Maybe you’re the one I’ve been waiting for?

With purrs and meows,

Mia 💗

FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) is a slow-acting virus that affects a cat’s immune system over time. While it makes them more vulnerable to infections, many FIV+ cats live completely normal lives with proper care.

FIV is transmitted only between cats, most often through deep bite wounds sustained during serious fights. It is not spread by:

  • Grooming
  • Sharing food or water bowls
  • Sharing litter boxes
  • Sleeping or cuddling together
  • Playing

The virus typically spreads through aggressive encounters, usually between unneutered male cats competing for territory, mates, or food. Neutered or spayed cats are much less likely to fight in this way. In calm, stable cat groups without aggression, FIV+ cats can safely live with uninfected cats.

Importantly, FIV cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other non-feline pets. The risk of transmission within a peaceful home environment is very low.

Yes! FIV+ cats can live safely with FIV-negative cats as long as they get along and don’t fight. Many FIV+ cats live in multi-cat households without ever passing the virus.

FIV+ cats do best indoors, with regular vet care and a stress-free lifestyle. Here’s how to keep them healthy:

  • Feed a high-quality diet (no raw food or unpasteurized dairy)
  • Provide fresh water at all times
  • Visit the vet twice a year for checkups and bloodwork
  • Stay up to date on core vaccines (rabies and distemper)
  • Watch for any changes in behavior or health and report them to your vet

FIV+ cats thrive in calm, loving homes where they can feel safe and stress-free. They do well with other friendly, non-aggressive cats and can enjoy the company of a relaxed feline companion.  A quiet household without dogs or young children is best, as it helps reduce stress and supports their overall well-being.

An FIV diagnosis is not the end of a cat’s journey. It’s simply one part of their unique story. These cats are just as affectionate, playful, and full of character as any other. If you are looking for a devoted and loving companion, please consider opening your heart and home to an FIV+ cat. They have so much love to give and deserve a chance to share it with you.
